Brothers of the Sonic Cloth is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary demise; a slow, entrancing dance towards a looming apocalypse… thick, monolithic, deliberate and devouring. Fronted by Seattle’s legendary guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle — formerly of TAD and Hog Molly — Brothers of the Sonic Cloth is a trio of longtime rock soldiers that includes veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki). Their full-length 2015 debut maintains a long-held tradition of conjuring some of the heaviest music from the darkest depths of the Pacific Northwest.
Released via Neurot Recordings, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth was captured at Robert Lang Studios by Chris Rahm and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio in Seattle, Washington and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al). Thrusting forth five hauntingly heavy tracks, with two bonus hymns included on the CD edition the offering serves as Doyle’s first recorded release in nearly fifteen years. Brothers of the Sonic Cloth’s audio manifestations are welcomingly unfamiliar, splicing thick, jagged riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold, sometimes within the confines of one track. Their long-form pieces present the kind of mature ideas and expansive progressions that outpace the listener’s short-term memory leading them off the proverbial map; familiar landmarks like sludge, post-metal, rock all but disappeared over the horizon. Authentic and authoritative, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth is as much a persistent thudding body punch of sonic destructive force as it is a thoughtful statement of awareness and the inescapable raw condition of life.

“Perhaps his heaviest yet, tolling tombstone riffs at a pace that makes early Melvins resemble the Ramones… Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth impress with the monolithic power of their noise.” – MOJO
“Tad’s vocals and songwriting have broadened impressively during his sabbatical.” – KERRANG
“Tad Doyle is back with a sludge rock, pagan rite of immense proportions… Brothers of the Sonic Cloth may seem to follow the arc of a tropical storm, with a building and threatening power that finally recedes away, but it’s certainly no noodling, progressive rock concept piece. This is truly heavy music.” – THE ARTS DESK
“Ultimately, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth’s LP is so tasty, it’ll have you unashamedly coming back for seconds, and thirds, and fourths, and dessert, and a cheese course, and just one tiny little wafer thin mint…” – DROWNED IN SOUND
“Moving between moments of gargantuan heaviness and passages of disorientating methylated noise, whilst the likes of opener Lava will be somewhat familiar to fans of 8-Way Santa, the sprawling mass of La Mano Poderosa, that takes in elements of both mid-era Killing Joke and the abrasive and tribal riffing of, say, High On Fire, is as surprising as the piano ballad outro.” – METAL HAMMER
“Brothers of the Sonic Cloth’s self-titled debut is a sludgy, psychedelic piece of work that occasionally reaches Conan-esque levels of thunder and will hit your psyche in all the right places.” – THRASH HITS

Having already earned hails from fans and media globally, NPR Music recently listed the band’s debut among its 25 Favorite Albums Of 2015 (So Far) noting, “Seattle’s Tad Doyle has been at this heavy game coming on three decades now. Years in the making, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH‘s debut is a thoroughly satisfying doom metal LP that is fully awake and teeming with power.”

“The Bros.’ debut lurches to life with a lumbering, grunge-influenced tune, ‘Lava’… From here, things slow down to funeral doom pace for much of the next six tracks/35 minutes. However, the doom and darkness is shaded with some interesting melodic textures and moments of lightness that come at unexpected times and add a dynamic gravity to the material.” – Decibel
“The glacially paced ‘Empires Of Dust’ evokes Monotheist-era Celtic Frost with some post-punk elements, while ‘Unnamed’ imagines a world where the Melvins play black metal… Like the most iconic albums, this one reveals hidden nuances and elements with every listen.” – Invisible Oranges
“Tad leads the charge through seven rounds of atmospheric post-sludge, the record’s 44 minutes no less concerned with ambience and mood than with gritting their teeth and bashing the listener over the head with waves of tectonic nod.” – The Obelisk

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH Unleashes New Hymn Via NPR; Self-Titled Debut Out TODAY On Neurot Recordings
Following teasers from Decibel Magazine and Classic Rock, today NPR hurls forth the asphyxiating heaviness of “Unnamed” from Seattle doom bringers, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH. The tune makes it’s chest-caving appearance on the band’s self-titled debut, out TODAY worldwide via Neurot Recordings.
Slow, heavy and wholly unapologetic, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary demise. Fronted by guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle — formerly of TAD and Hog Molly – alongside veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki), the trio’s debut was tracked at at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio in Seattle, Washington, mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al) and serves as Doyle’s first recorded release in nearly fifteen years. Already reaping critical hails from both sides of the pond, Invisible Oranges vows, “it will be very difficult for any band to release a better album than this one in 2015,” further gushing, “The glacially paced ‘Empires Of Dust’ evokes Monotheist-era Celtic Frost with some post-punk elements, while ‘Unnamed’ imagines a world where the Melvins play black metal. The album’s crown jewel is the eleven-minute ‘La Mano Poderosa,’ which begins life as pure stoner Sleep worship then slowly, deliberately morphs into a noise rock jam buried under layers of metal distortion and Bonham drums. When the song’s coda comes back to (and augments) the opening riff it feels like Godzilla returning to the ocean. Like the most iconic albums, this one reveals hidden nuances and elements with every listen.”
Comments Doyle of third movement, “Unnamed,” “One of the hardest questions to honestly ask oneself is, ‘Who am I?’ People move through life attaching labels to themselves, and to others. It’s human nature for you to call yourself a motorcycle rider if you ride motorcycles. We tend to attach the things that we do — our jobs, our actions — to our identity of who we think we are as individuals. By doing so, we are selling ourselves way too short by labeling our existence. The song ‘Unnamed’ is about letting go of false perceptions of ourselves and others in order to be truly open and free from the shackles of perception.”
You can hear the exclusive track premier of ‘UNNAMED’, on NPR at this location.
“The cover says it all: a molten sun cannonballs into a blackened landscape, spraying lava as it careers into finality… From the first chord, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth demand that the volume dial go up as far as you can get it. A range of musical forms lurch out of the speakers – at times some of the riffs head toward Sunn O))) territory, or the Melvins at their most molasses-thick, but there’s none of the disinterest in rocking out that some denizens of guitar music’s outer reaches can sometimes exhibit.” – Digital Fix
“The riffs and rhythm section are hypnotic. There is nothing short or sweet about this album. Most of the songs are quite long and sound lovingly like chainsaws dipped in tar. Some of the best stoner metal to come out in some time.” – Glacially Musical
“If you’ve ever wondered what might have happened if The Pixies had turned into flesh-eating zombies right after they released Surfer Rosa, your wait is over. Because they probably would have sounded likeBROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH.” – Echoes And Dust
“…so tasty, it’ll have you unashamedly coming back for seconds, and thirds, and fourths, and dessert, and a cheese course, and just one tiny little wafer thin mint…” – Drowned In Sound
“After 15 years of relative silence, it’s good to have Tad Doyle back and in such fine form. God’s balls, This is heavy shit.” – MusicOMH
Friday February 6, 2015
NEUROT RECORDINGS has revealed the second track premier for the BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH debut self-titled record available worldwide on 17, February 2015.
Vocalist/guitarist Tad Doyle further comments, “Originally the main riff was one of the first songs for BOTSC, conceived in 2007 and developed over a period of seven years until this release. Lyrically the subject matter is of the notion that one has been here for thousands of years. This comes with the realization that there are ‘old souls’ who may have been here many times and have witnessed glimpses of past lives through a series of déjà vus. Some who have lived as hunter gatherers working soil, some as soldiers on bloody battlefields joining their blades with others flesh, and those who have witnessed their lives as other living beings and animals. This return to ‘here’, being the last time.”

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH: New Hymn From Seattle Doom Visionaries Now Playing Courtesy Of Decibel Magazine; CD Preorders Available
With the imminent unveiling of the self-titled debut from Seattle doom visionaries, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH, now less than one month away, today the guardians of Decibel Magazine’s web portal heave forth opening track, “Lava” for public ingestion.
Fronted by iconic guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle — formerly of TAD and Hog Molly —BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH is a trio of longtime rock rebels featuring Doyle alongside veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki). Not surprisingly, the threesome’s forthcoming long player summons some of the gnarliest sounds from the blackest depths of the Pacific Northwest.
Relays Doyle of the debilitating resonance of the record’s opening hymn, “‘Lava’ was originally inspired by a Native American folklore story that talks about Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier, both active volcanos in the Cascade Mountain range spanning Washington State and Oregon. The story in short; ‘Where little sister goes, big sister follows,’ with ‘little sister’ being Mt. St. Helens and ‘big sister’ being Mt. Rainier. Native culture and geology records have mentioned that these eruptions happen every four-hundred or so years. Rainier is well overdue. This song is basically a tribute to the force and natural powers that lay within the region and what an eruption would look like through the eyes of the life that surrounds the region.”

Brothers Of the Sonic Cloth was captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio in Seattle, Washington and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al). Thrusting forth five hauntingly heavy tracks, with two bonus psalms included on the CD edition, Brothers Of the Sonic Cloth is Doyle’s first recorded output in nearly fifteen years. Splicing thick, jagged riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold, sometimes within the confines of one track, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse… thick, monolithic, deliberate and devouring. Their longform pieces present the kind of mature ideas and expansive progressions that outpace the listener’s short-term memory leading them off the proverbial map; familiar landmarks like sludge, post-metal, rock all but disappeared over the horizon. Wednesday December 3, 2014 – The first video with details about our debut record release on Neurot Recordings is directly below.
Elaborates Doyle of the band’s creation: “After almost fifteen years without putting out a record, much time was spent wood-shedding, riffing and writing new material.
BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH was originally a recording-only project and creative outlet for me playing all instruments on early unreleased demos but I quickly realized that I wanted the music to be played live so I would have to enlist other like-minded players. Peggy was an obvious choice with her enthusiasm and energy that made her an asset right from the start of integrating the band with other musicians. Dave French was a guy we both related to on a musical and deep spiritual level. We had played shows together with our respective bands, Peggy and I in BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH and Dave who played bass in his band The Anunnaki. Dave completed the circle when he offered to play drums and his joining was this last piece that solidified the band. We are very honored and excited to have this release on Neurot Recordings whom with their legacy goes a fierce integrity that we are proud to be a part of.”
Further BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH info, including additional teasers and track premieres to be announced in the weeks to come. Stay tuned.
Tuesday September 23, 2014 – Keeping up a long-held tradition of bringing forth some of the heaviest music from the darkness of the Pacific Northwest, Seattle’s Tad Doyle (formerly of TAD, Hog Molly), delivers his strongest songwriting and performance to date with his newest project, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH. This powerful trio of musicians — Tad on guitar/vocals alongside veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Annunaki) — will release their long-awaited debut LP in early 2015 on Neurot Recordings. BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH fuses together the collective and extensive rock histories and experiences of its three members in the worlds of punk, hard rock and metal.
Says Steve Von Till of the signing: “All of us at Neurot Recordings are so incredibly fired up about having the opportunity to be a part of this release. For me personally, Tad has been responsible for some of my favorite guitar driven noise of our generation not to mention the fact that it is an absolute pleasure to be working together with such great human beings. Witness the return of Tad with BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH!”
Stay tuned for further BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH developments, including audio teasers, as they transpire.
Thursday June 19, 2014 – BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH debut recording update: We have the final mixes for the record and we are extremely satisfied with the Billy Anderson mix treatments that we did at Everything Hz. Nine songs have been mixed.
Billy has been a treat to work with and has added dimensions and sonic depths that only he could have brought to these songs. When a band talks about having a fourth member, (a mix engineer/recording engineer/soundman) that have contributed to the music in such a way that it brings out things in the mix and out of the songs that is greater than the sum of it’s parts, we know what that means.
We will be working with Billy in the future for our next recording. In the meantime, we can’t wait to find a home for these songs with a record label that understands us and is willing to back us to get this music to the people. Next up is mastering with Justin Weis at Trakworx!
Sunday March 23, 2014 – BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH debut recording update: Today we have finally finished all of the recording. This process has been quite a journey for us and we feel really good about the energy and emotion that we have have infused into the songs . A whole lot of heart and soul was poured into the record with many of the songs being written over six years ago. We are grateful to all of the people who inspired us along the way and especially those who came to our shows and showed us support all along the path we have weaved. We have booked time with the inimitable Billy Anderson Producer Engine Ear and we are beyond stoked to finish the record and move on to the next phase. Artwork! Stay tuned.
Sunday Dec. 30, 2012 – Recording update for the BotSC record: We are currently scheduled to record the final pieces of the debut record at Witch Ape Studio. The record is really taking on a life of its own now and although we have taken almost two years to get to this point we are resolved that it will be worth the wait. We really appreciate all of the support and nudging we have received from all of you to get this done so we can release this work to the universe. In short, Happy New Year and be looking for a BotSC debut full length record in 2013. We promise! Until then, you can get all of the previously released MP3s and other stuff HERE for FREE!
Friday May 12, 2012 – BotSC are currently recording their debut full length double gatefold album on vinyl and cd. Currently we are rehearsing to do some final tracking with Chris Rahm. It has been a long road to write these songs and record them complete with drummer changes and blessings on our road to releasing this music to the universe. We hope to finish the record in September 2012 and hand it over to our friend Billy Anderson to handle the mixing. Until then, here is a video of one of our releases.
